Your benefit choices help build security and support for you/your family’s health and well-being goals. Benefits-eligible employees have a choice between two medical plans through UnitedHealthcare: the Health Savings Plan (HSP) or PPO Plan. Our three dental plan options from Aetna and two vision insurance plans through UnitedHealthcare are designed to provide you flexibility.  We also offer employee/spouse/child life, AD&D, short- and long-term disability insurance.

Caring for you means caring and planning for your future. That’s why at GW, we provide you several options to save for your retirement, giving you control over how you direct your investments and save for your future.  We offer a 403(b) Plan for employee contributions with the option to contribute pre or post-tax our 401(a) Plan offers university base and match contributions once years of service requirements are met. Employees have a choice between Fidelity and TIAA as their retirement plan service providers.   One-on-one retirement counseling as well as financial and retirement well-being education are offered throughout the year.

Our “people-first” culture includes providing opportunities for employees to further cultivate their careers and pursue a passion. One of the most important and “Only-at-GW” benefits the university provides is access to our world-class courses and degree programs.  The tuition remission benefit will pay up to 100% of tuition for benefit-eligible employees for 6 credit hours per semester. Benefits are also available for your eligible dependents.  We also offer a range of seminars and virtual training to give you the skills you need to develop in your career path.

GW is committed to offering programs that support our employees’ health, financial, social and mental well-being needs. We strive to offer innovative programs and educational opportunities to create a thriving community. Employees enjoy free access to Headspace and the option to use Talkspace text therapy through our EAP. Our family care programs include back-up care support, elder care and other work/life benefits, as well as employee discounts such as Capital Bikeshare.

GW values the time employees invest at the university, and we also recognize the importance of taking time away from work to rest and recharge, or attend to your health and family obligations.

Our paid time-off and leave options have been carefully crafted to ensure that you have ample time away from the office. From our annual and paid sick time, to our 10 paid holidays, as well as our office closure during the Winter Break, our time off policies have been designed with our community needs in mind.

"Caring for our employees is central to the work we do in Benefits. We strive to create competitive programs that extend beyond health, retirement and insurance benefits. Offering opportunities for professional development and well-being, including family care and mental health support, contributes to and supports our 'people-first' culture."
