How do I search for jobs?

Visit GW’s career website to set up your user profile, search for positions of interest and monitor the status of your application(s).  To search for positions, click the Search Jobs link on the left side of the page.

We encourage you to visit our career site regularly as new opportunities are posted daily.

How can I apply for a job?

To apply for a job, click the Create Account link at the left side of the page, and then follow the directions to set up your personal account.

Returning candidates should click on Login, and enter your username and password. This enables you to apply to new positions without re-entering your application information, and review the status of positions for which you have applied.

Do I need a resume?

Each posting provides information about the documents which are necessary to complete and submit your application for the position.  All postings will require you to submit a resume.  To submit your resume you will upload a Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf) file at the attachment step of your application.

Should I provide a cover letter?

Each posting provides information about the documents which are necessary to complete and submit your application for the position. Most postings will require you to provide a cover letter, although for some postings it may be an optional document which you may choose to upload.  Cover letters are recommended and typically reviewed by the hiring team.  A cover letter is your opportunity for you to provide additional information about your credentials and talents that make you the best match for the position.  To include a cover letter you will upload a Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf) file at the attachment step of your application.

What else do I need to know about applying?

When you submit your application online, you will immediately receive an email to confirm the receipt of your application.  If you do not receive an email notification, please check your spam folder or log in to your account to review your application submission.

Once your application is received, the hiring team will have access to your application materials.  If the hiring team determines your qualifications are a match for the position, they will reach out to you by phone or email.

Are non-US citizens eligible for employment at The George Washington University?

We do not sponsor for employment Visa status in staffing our positions. The application will ask you if you are legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Am I able to make changes to my application?

What types of jobs are posted on the GW Careers page?

As the largest private employer in the District of Columbia, the university offers a wide variety of opportunities whether you are searching for your first, or your next, career.  These may be full-time, part-time, and limited-term positions. The posting for each position will provide detailed information about the terms, location, and typical hiring pay range for the position.

Career opportunities are available in many areas:

  • GW Temps: As GW’s internal temporary agency, GW Temps matches applicants with temporary assignments at the university. Assignments are diverse in duties as well as in scope, lasting anywhere from one day to many months.

Where can I find contact information for the hiring manager for the position?

If the hiring team determines your qualifications are a match for the position, they will reach out to you by phone or email.  For a variety of reasons, including privacy protection, we do not provide hiring manager contact information.
 

How does the application process work?

The application process can be an involved one, but it's an opportunity for you to get to know GW’s values and culture – and for us to understand a little bit more about you. That's why we want to give you a few tips on what to expect because being open, honest and transparent about expectations is a big part of who we are. Once your application is submitted, your materials are reviewed by the hiring team.  They will contact candidates who are a good fit for the position and who model GW’s values.

As the recruitment process moves forward, the candidate status of your application will be updated.  If you are not selected for a specific position, there may be other opportunities in the future, so please continue to view our openings and apply for additional positions of interest.

How can I check the status of my application(s)?

This enables you to apply to new positions without re-entering your application information, and review the status of positions for which you have applied.  Each department within GW manages the hiring process independently so we do not have additional specifics on the status of each application that is being reviewed.

Can I submit my resume/cover letter for a position without submitting an application?

We do not accept resumes or cover letters which are submitted by email. To have your qualifications considered, please visit our career site.   This is where you may set up your user profile, search for positions of interest, and monitor the status of your candidacy.

What if I’m not selected for an interview?

If you notice your status says “not selected” there may be other opportunities in the future, so please continue to view our openings and apply for additional positions of interest. What is GW Temps?

GW Temps is the internal temporary employment service at GW and is a dedicated venue for GW schools and departments to hire temporary staff.

GW Temps staff enjoy many of the resources available to GW employees while gaining valuable experience to prepare for a full time career with GW.
